The Roof, The Roof, The Roof is on Fire

Today at the Daily Prompt they ask: Your home is on fire. Grab five items (assume all people and animals are safe). What did you grab?

Well, I think that if I knew I wasn’t going to be burned to death for attempting it, I would try and grab my favorite item in the whole world. It has been an important part of my everyday life for years:

the tower

My PC is my best buddy. It brings me videos, blogs, porn, and news. What have you done for me lately?

First, however, I would grab my purse because needing to replace all my ID cards, credit cards, ATM card, keys, eyeglasses, and cell phone is not the type of stress I need to be placed under when my house has just freakin’ burnt down. Then, I would stuff it full of important documents I keep in a folder in my dresser. You never know when you are going to need a kid’s birth certificate for something. While that would technically count as much more than five things, I am going to treat the ‘purse’ and ‘papers’ as one item each which leaves me two more spots.

I would have to grab my kids’ tablet on the way out. There is no way that I am going to be using public transportation with two little kids and have no means of keeping them quiet and entertained during those long, grueling rides. My sanity is worth getting smoke inhalation. Last but not least, I would grab our coats. It might be toasty inside a building that’s being consumed by a raging fire but it’s still winter out. The giant bonfire that was once our abode isn’t going to last forever. We may as well be prepared to battle the coming months of frigid weather, especially if we are now essentially homeless…

So to recap in a nutshell:

  1. Purse
  2. Documents
  3. Computer
  4. Tablet
  5. Coats

What five items would you grab if your house was burning down?

  2. I’m at a loss to answer this in five, but I’m a real obsessive before I leave the house, so I expect I would check several times as I always do before walking out the door – make sure I’ve got my keys!!! 😀
